TO SAY THIS EVENT WAS OVERWHELMING WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT.
Nothing beats a road trip with your close friends, especially when the destination is basically California's equivalent to the Goodwood revival meetings in Great Britain, at one of the most historic tracks of all time, Laguna Seca raceway. For me, the highlights were the sheer multitude of classic racecars, ranging from multiple Porsche 917's, the fabulous Lancia LC2 (driven by Mclaren CEO Zak Brown), 2 Toyota Eagle GTP land missiles, and a swarm of old 911 RSR's. However, if that doesn't tickle your pickle, there were a fair number of newer, more well known cars, such as the screaming Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 with its 6.5 liter V12, piercing the sound barrier with every downshift, or perhaps the Lanzante Mclaren P1 HDK if you prefer a more road focused supercar.
I don't really like to exaggerate, but I kid you not, it was probably a billion dollars worth of automobiles in the paddock at all times, especially when you consider there were 5 (FIVE!!!) total Porsche 917's, 3 Ferrari 250 GTO's, a Mercedes Benz 300 SLR, and many historic F1 cars from the late 70's, such as Niki Lauda's Ferrari tipo 312T, or James Hunt's Mclaren M23. Even newer Mclaren F1 cars with screaming V8's and V10's producing a symphony unlike anything I've heard on this Earth. I think it goes without saying, Velocity Invitational 2022 is a must-attend event for the automotive enthusiast, whether you are into older trans am racers drifting around turn 10 after flying down the corkscrew, or ragtime racers from the early 1900's putting their way up towards the start/finish line. If you don't attend, you are missing out.
To round off this post, here's some videos to show what I personally enjoyed the most from this event.
